Work on the boundless playground at Delano Park is about 30 percent complete.

The contractor, Rick Hall Construction, reported that most of the concrete pads are in place and are ready for installing the pre-fabricated equipment.

“The biggest holdup is waiting on the playground equipment to come in, which we expect at the end of April,” Hall said.

“We hope to complete this project about the first week in June.”

The $584,000 playground will feature specialized play equipment, ramps and smooth rubber surfaces, making it wheelchair accessible. It will be the first large-scale playground of its kind in Morgan County.

“There’s not a whole lot more we can do until the playground equipment and other fabricated items come in,” Hall said.

The equipment manufacturer is Columbia Cascade.

Donations

The Junior League of Morgan County has donated more than $100,000. The city added $150,000 and $250,000 came from a state grant.

The Junior League and Friends of Delano Park will donate the remaining $84,000.

In addition to preparing the foundation this winter, Rick Hall Construction has renovated the old bathhouse, which is next to the playground site and the Splashpad.

The exterior stone walls remain intact.

The interior, however, is redone with tile floors and fixtures.

It will have a family bathroom in addition to men’s and women’s bathrooms.

The new restroom will be ready in about three weeks, Hall said.
