Decatur, AL – In a joint venture, the City of Decatur and the Morgan County Revenue Commissioner’s office have launched a new Geographic Information System (GIS) that provides enhanced online information for the public. Access to the information will be from both the GIS link on www.DecaturAlabamaUSA.com and the www.co.morgan.al.us revenue department page. For first-time users, there is a useful “Help” link on the top menu bar that demonstrates the search format for locating property by parcel number, owner’s name or street address.
Built by Geo-Jobe GIS Consulting, the new system will provide more information than the previous online mapping system the two organizations used. The new program will provide users with building and tax information for individual properties as well as provide aerial photos, property lines and census information. For each property listed for properties listed in the City of Decatur, the site provides specific schools, voting location, garbage pick-up schedule, and which city council member and county commissioner represent the area. Another helpful feature, particularly for those researching a property to purchase or develop is the “measure” function in the menu bar; it allows the viewer to check measurements for a user-selected section such as a property line.
