The Legal Department is presently located on the 6th Floor of the City Hall Tower at 402 Lee St., N.E. and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Legal Department serves as legal advisor to all City Departments, the City Council, and the Mayor.

• The Legal Department represents the City of Decatur at City Board meetings as needed.
• The Legal Department is responsible for the prosecution of cases in Decatur Municipal Court and any appeal of those cases to the Circuit Court.
• Additional duties include the drafting and review of City ordinances; regulations and resolutions; attending all City Council meetings; handling claims against the City; and the review of general legal affairs of the City.
