The City of Decatur’s Chief Financial Officer oversees the Financial Services Department, which includes Finance, Purchasing, and Revenue. Finance handles all of the accounting functions, Purchasing is responsible for securing all equipment, materials, and services required by the various city departments, and Revenue’s functions are comprised of the collection, administration, and enforcement of local taxing ordinances relating to businesses and their operation within the City.
The City of Decatur has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting each year since FY 1992.
The City's general obligation bond rating by Standard & Poor's Corporation and Moody's Investor Services, Inc. are "AA-" and "Aa3", respectively.
