Federal Flood Insurance Program / Flood Plain Controls
Structures planned for construction that are located within a flood hazard zone within Decatur must be built above the base flood level of that area. Persons may examine maps located in the Building Department to determine if their proposed construction is in a flood hazard zone and what is the base flood level of that area. The City of Decatur adopted flood plain controls in order to be eligible for assistance under the Federal Flood Insurance Program. This allows Decatur residents who have structures located in a flood hazard area to purchase flood insurance at minimum cost. Forms for flood elevation certification are available in the Building Department, or can be downloaded by clicking here.
